India in talks with Red Cross for bringing out students from Sumy
Kyiv/New Delhi/UNI: The Indian Embassy in Ukraine said they have evacuated the vast majority of Indian students from Kharkiv city and are exploring all possible ways to evacuate Indians from Sumy, for which they are holding talks with all parties, including the Red Cross.
The Indian Embassy also said that an embassy team visited the Polish borders of Budomierz and Shehyni-Medyka to help with smooth movement of Indians, and advised Indian students to pass through these points only during the day.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted that 15 more flights of Operation Ganga are coming today, bringing back Indians from Ukraine.
In tweets, the Indian Embassy said: "Deeply engaged to ensure safe evacuation of our citizens from Kharkiv, including Pisochyn. Have already successfully evacuated the vast majority from Kharkiv city.
"Organising buses for evacuation from Pisochyn tomorrow (Saturday) at Government of India cost. "Exploring all possible mechanisms to evacuate Indian citizens in Sumy, safely & securely.
"Discussed evacuation & identification of exit routes with all interlocuters including Red Cross. "Control room will continue to be active until all our citizens are evacuated. Be Safe Be Strong."
On Friday, the MEA spokesperson had said that more than 700 students remain in Sumy, while there are around 300 students left in Kharkiv, with most of them having moved to the safe zone of Pesochyn (Pisochyn).
On a team visiting the Polish border points, the embassy said: "Embassy team visited Polish borders of Budomeirz and Shehyni-Medyka. Smooth movements at these points have been facilitated. Students are advised to pass through these borders during the day to avoid waiting at these points at night.
"In case of any medical emergency, nearby border guards may be contacted immediately. Ambulances are ready to help you at all check posts." EAM S Jaishankar said: "#OperationGanga in full flow. "15 flights coming today."
The Indian Embassy in Romania in a tweet provided a hotline number for Indian students to contact them for evacuation: "Indian students who are still in Bucharest may please get in touch with the Embassy on hotline number +40 725964976 for evacuation by flights leaving in the next two days."
