New Delhi, Sept 30 (IBNS) The border stand-off between the 'border troops' neighbours India and China have been 'successfully terminated' , officials said.

"As per understanding reached between India and China, the two sides have carried out disengagement and redeployment of border troops in Chumar and Demchok areas in Eastern Ladakh on September 26-27, 2014 to restore the status quo ante as on September 1, 2014. A meeting of the Border Commanders of the two sides was held in the afternoon of 30 September 2014 at Spanggur Gap to confirm that the stand-off between the border troops of two sides in Chumar and Demchok areas has been successfully terminated," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

"The two sides have also agreed that a meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) will be convened in India on 16-17 October 2014 to discuss various issues pertaining to the maintenance of peace and tranquillity in the border areas," it said.

Conforming the move, the Chinese  Foreign Ministry's statement was quoted by Xinhua news agency as saying: " On Sept. 30, the frontier defense troops of the two countries completed simultaneous withdrawal according to the steps formulated by the two sides and restored peace and tranquility in the area."

Over 1,000 armed Chinese troops and 1,500 Indian Army personnel were engaged in an eyeball-to-eyeball confrontation at Chumur in Ladakh since September 11.

Tension erupted as some Chinese workers crossed over with heavy construction equipment to build a road up five km deep inside Indian territory.
