India celebrates 68th Republic Day amid tight security

New Delhi, Jan 26 (IBNS): India on Thursday is celebrating its 68th Republic Day amid tight security arrangements in the national capital and the rest of the country.

The Republic Day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the country's Constitution.

India adopted its Constitution in the year 1950.

On this day, at the national capital, India displays its military might and cultural diversity.

Heavy security cover has been enforced in the capital and other parts of the country.

These arrangements have been taken in the wake of terror threats regarding possible attacks by groups like the Lashkar-e-Taiba, media reports said.

Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the Chief Guest for the 2017 Republic Day celebrations on Thursday.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders greeted the nation on the Republic Day occasion.
