Imphal: A massive fire erupted at a building near the high-security secretariat complex in Manipur's capital, Imphal, on Saturday, media reported.

The building is only a few hundred meters from the official residence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, NDTV reported citing police reports.

Four fire trucks were dispatched to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze this evening. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

The affected building is part of the same complex as the main office of the Kuki Inpi, a civil society group representing the Kuki tribes.

The Kuki Inpi has been supporting the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), a Churachandpur-based Kuki group advocating for a "separate administration" to be carved out of Manipur, the report said.

This incident comes just a week after fresh violence in Manipur's Jiribam district, which borderManipur,ManipurFire,KukiInpi,Kuki,Imphal,ImphalFires Assam, with clashes between the valley-dominant Meitei community and the hill-dominant Hmar tribes.
