Home Ministry to reopen 7 anti-Sikh riots cases including one involving Kamal Nath
New Delhi, Sep 9 (UNI) A Special Investigation Team (SIT ) will reopen seven cases of 1984 Sikh riot including one involving Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, according to a government notification.
According to Home Ministry notification on August 19, the SIT has taken up discharged cases for scrutiny of these seven case and to start fresh investigation in this case.
Seven anti-Sikh riot cases were registered 1984 at Police Stations of Parliament Street, Connaught Place, Patel Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Sunlight Colony, Kalyanpuri, and Shahadara.
The case no 601/84 was registered at Parliament Street Police Station in which Nath had allegedly given shelters to the rioters who vandalized and stormed Gurudwara Raqabganj following the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguard on October 31,1984.
Nath was never named in any FIR registered by the Police.
This SIT was set up on February12, 2015 following the recommendation of Justice GP Mathur Committee. The probe team is consist of two senior IPS officers and one Judicial officer.
Last year, Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was found guilty in this case and was convicted for life.
Over 3,000 Sikhs in New Delhi and an estimated 8,000 across India were killed during this riot in 1984.
