The rainfall began at around 5 pm. and continued till 6:15 pm.

Following the heavy rainfall, several parts in south and north Kolkata were waterlogged.

"Due to the heavy rainfall, traffic movement has been hit in the city. More traffic cops and senior officials have been deployed to the important points," one senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS.

"We are doing our best to restore normal traffic movement and the situation will be brought under control very soon," he further said.

The IMD's Kolkata regional centre is forecasting more rainfall in the city and its outskirts in next 48 hours.
