Mumbai/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to veteran actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar, praising his rare acting intensity, versatility and creative talent following his demise at the age of 75.

Modi said Patekar's distinctive acting style and ability to bring diversity and creativity to every role had created memorable characters that would remain etched in the memories of generations.

‘A unique impact’

Mourning Patekar's death, Modi wrote on X, “The distinctiveness of Shri Nana Patekarji's acting, his intensity and impactful personality—these are qualities found in only a few artists.”

He added that Patekar's distinctive individuality and unique style had made a lasting impact on Indian cinema.

“Bringing remarkable diversity and creativity to every role, he portrayed characters for us that will remain etched in the memory of generations,” the Prime Minister said.

‘Clear and forthright views’

Modi also recalled Patekar's straightforward nature and his willingness to express his views firmly.

“He also commanded great respect for his clear and forthright views, never wavering while expressing his opinions steadfastly rooted in his convictions,” he said.

The Prime Minister highlighted Patekar's immense contribution to both the Hindi and Marathi film industries.

“Nana Patekar's contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema is truly invaluable. With his passing, a void has been created that no one can ever fill,” Modi said.

He expressed his condolences to Patekar's family, friends and countless admirers.

“In the grief of his family, loved ones, and countless fans, we stand in solidarity with them. Om Shanti!” Modi added.

Nana Patekar's social and political views

Nana Patekar was known for his forthright views on politics and social issues, though he did not remain closely aligned with any political party.

He often spoke critically about political leadership, corruption, farmers’ concerns and social inequality.

In 2015, he publicly supported farmers facing distress and later became involved in initiatives aimed at helping drought-hit farmers in Maharashtra. He generally maintained that he preferred to speak independently rather than enter electoral politics.

Nana Patekar died suffering cardiac arrest

Patekar died at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa on Thursday, media reports said.

According to reports, Patekar, who was living with his nephew Prasad Patekar, had complained of a headache since Wednesday night.

He was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula in the early hours of Thursday and was subsequently rushed to Manipal Hospital.

Doctors attempted to revive the actor for around 45 minutes, but he did not respond to the treatment. He was declared dead at around 5:20 am, according to hospital sources.

Patekar's son Malhar Patekar, who was in Pune, has reportedly left for Goa following the news of his father's death.
