Haryana HC puts interim stay on quota for Jats
Chandigarh, May 26 (IBNS): The Haryana High Court has put an interim stay on the reservations for Jats in government jobs and educational institutes, media reports said on Thursday.
The Haryana Cabinet led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had in March approved the Jat Reservation Bill.
The Akhil Bhartiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (ABJASS) had earlier resorted to agitation with its demands for reservations for the Jat community.
At least 30 people had lost their lives in violence since the beginning of the agitation in February.
The ABJAAS had been demanding ten percent quota in government jobs and educational institutions.
The Haryana High Court came to the decision while hearing a Public Interest Litigation challenging the constitutional validity of reservation bill passed by the state.
