Srinagar/UNI: A gunbattle erupted between the militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Sunday, officials said.

They said the gun battle erupted at Cheyan Devsar during a cordon and a search operation in the area following an input about the presence of militants.

"As the joint team of forces cordoned the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering a gunfight," a security official said.

“Encounter has started at Cheyan Devsar area of Kulgam. Police and the Army on the job. Further details to follow," a police tweet said.
