Phagwara, July 17 (UNI): A groom and his baraat (wedding party) returned empty handed after the bride refused to marry the man saying she was shown the picture of a young man while the one who turned up was double her age.

The incident took place in Jagjitpur village in Phagwara sub division of Punjab on Monday.

According to reports, the marriage of the village girl, a daughter of Harneik Singh, was fixed with Mukerian youth Jarnail Singh.

The baraat came to the village and the photographers hired for the marriage function started their job but the girl was shocked to see the groom, who she said was different from the picture she had been shown.

She refused to marry the man.

Tension prevailed and after a few hours’ altercation between both parties, several villagers came forward in the support of the bride and the matter was brought to the notice of police.

Police said the matter was being investigated.
