Panaji/UNI: Former Goa Minister Alina Saldana resigned as an MLA here on Thursday.

The BJP MLA submitted her resignation to Speaker Rajesh Patnekar at the Assembly Complex at Porvorim, near the city.

Speaking to reporters, Saldanha said she had resigned because BJP was not the same party which she had joined.

She is likely to quit the ruling BJP as well.

Saldana said many parties were in touch with her and she would take a decision after consulting her supporters.

With her resignation, the number of legislators in the state assembly has now been reduced to 35.

Saldana represented Cortalim constituency in the state assembly.

Goa will go for assembly elections early next year.
