New Delhi, Aug 5 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condoled the demise of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and said a glorious chapter in Indian politics comes to an end.

"A glorious chapter in Indian politics comes to an end. India grieves the demise of a remarkable leader who devoted her life to public service and bettering lives of the poor. Sushma Swaraj Ji was one of her kind, who was a source of inspiration for crores of people," Modi tweeted.

According to reports, she died due to a massive heart attack.

She was 67.

Following the attack, Sushma Swaraj was admitted to AIIMS.

She had served as the External Affairs Minister of the nation in the first term of PM Narendra Modi and his government.

Swaraj had earned accolades from Indians both within the nation and abroad for her prompt performance as the country's foreign minister.

In her last tweet earlier in the day, Sushma had congratulated the Prime Minister for move to revoke Article 370.

"@narendramodi
ji - Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you very much. I was waiting to see this day in my lifetime," she tweeted.

Sushma Swaraj did not contest the Lok Sabha polls this time.

S Jaishankar stepped into her shoes to serve as the External Affairs Minister of the country.

The Congress party mourned her death and tweeted: " We are saddened to hear about the untimely demise of Smt Sushma Swaraj. Our condolences to her family and loved ones. "
