Girl set on fire as she tries to resist attackers

Bareilly, Nov 26 (IBNS): A 15-year-old girl was allegedly set on fire by a group of six men who attempted to rape her at a village in Uttar Pradesh, media reports said. The victim died of severe burn injuries on Sunday night.

Police said four of the attackers were arrested in connection with the case. Search drive is on for two men who are still at large.

According to reports, the girl was allegedly assaulted on November 17 by the men, all from her village, when she was alone at home in Shahjahanpur.

When the girl resisted them, the men allegedly poured kerosene on her and set her on fire. She was taken from hospital to hospital, sources said.

The girl’s family first took her to the Shahjahanpur Medical College and to the Bareilly Medical College. As her health deteriorated, the hospital asked her parents to take her to Lucknow.

They took her to Rohilkhand Medical College, a private hospital in Bareilly, because it was closer. The district administration and local organisations helped them pay the hospital bills as the family could not afford it, reports said.
