Girl commits suicide in Kota despite clearing IIT entrance exam

Kota, Apr 29 (IBNS): A young girl allegedly committed suicide in Rajasthan's Kota city, a day after she cleared the IIT entrance exam, reports said.

She reportedly jumped off her fifth floor home in the city.

According to reports, the girl, who has been identified as Kriti Tripathi,  reportedly took the extreme path as she was not happy with the result.

SHO of Jawahar Nagar police station Harshit Bharati was quoted as saying by The Times of India: "Kriti has implied in the note that she didn't want to pursue engineering, but Ba chelor of Science (BSc). She wanted to become an astrophysicist. It's strange because one can also become an astrophysicist after graduating from an IIT."

"However, her JEE (Mains) results came out on Wednesday .Though the cut-off marks were 100, she scored 144. As per the coaching officials, it was a decent score and she had a good chance of cracking IIT," the SHO was quoted as saying  by the newspaper.

Hailing from Ghaziabad, Kriti  moved to Kota recently to take  coaching for the IIT entrance exam.

The IIT JEE or Joint Entrance Exam mains results was declared on Wednesday.
