Srinagar/New Delhi: There has been a four-fold fall in incidents of cross-border infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir in the past five years, according to statistics provided by the Home Ministry in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Responding to members Rakesh Sinha and Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said, "Cross-border infiltration has decreased significantly in Jammu and Kashmir."

The Minister said 136 incidents of infiltration were noticed in 2017, 143 in 2018, 138 in 2019, 51 in 2020 and 34 in 2021.

The incidents of cross-border infiltration declined sharply post abolition of Article 370 in August 2019, he said.

He said the government adopted a multi-pronged approach to contain cross-border infiltration.

These includesd multi-tiered deployment along the international border, border fencing, improved intelligence and operational coordination, equipping security forces with advanced weapons and taking proactive action against infiltrators, Rai said.
