Kolkata/IBNS: Former President late Pranab Mukherjee’s son and ex-Lok Sabha MP, Abhijit Mukherjee, joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) here on Monday.

Mukherjee joined the party in presence of TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee and veteran Lok Sabha MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay.

Joining the party, Mukherjee, an ex-MLA from Nalhati, said, “I joined the TMC taking permission from Mamata Didi (Mamata Banerjee) and Abhishek babu (Abhishek Banerjee).”

“I had become an MLA defeating the Left in 2011 but I had no credit in that. I had won due to storm against the Left led by Mamata Banerjee... Similarly, I hope we would be able to make India free from the BJP under her leadership.”

Abhijit was a Congress leader.

West Bengal witnessed major political changes after the Assembly polls results were declared.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress registered a thumpng victory in the polls.

Notably, TMC-turned BJP national vice president Mukul Roy and his son Subhrangshu have already gone back to their former party, creating political waves in the state, after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stormed back to power on May 2.

Though the BJP managed to win 77 seats as opposed to TMC's 213, the Left and Congress drew a blank for the first time since Independence.
