Former President Pranab Mukherjee receives Bharat Ratna award

New Delhi, Aug 8 (IBNS): Former President Pranab Mukherjee was awarded Bharat Award, the highest civilian award in the country, on Thursday.

Mukherjee received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind.

Mukherjee remained the President of the country between 2012-2017.

Known as Pranab da, he served the Congress party in major part of his political life. He held a number of portfolios under the Congress governments all throughout his life.

Other recipients of the Bharat Ratna were social activist Nanaji Deshmukh and singer-lyricist-poet-filmmaker late Bhupen Hazarika.
