Former media entrepreneur Indrani Mukerjea, testifies in court about Byculla prison riot

Mumbai, Jun 28 (IBNS): Former media entrepreneur Indrani Mukerjea, appeared in court on Wednesday, to testify regarding the death of an inmate, which allegedly led to a riot in the Byculla prison near Mumbai, according to media reports.

The CBI has also allowed Indrani Mukerjea to file an FIR, media reports said.

According to media reports, Mukerjea informed the court that all jail lights were switched of before the lathi-charge.

She claimed in court that she had seen the assault on prison inmate Manjula Shetye in the Superintendent's office through a hole in the door and later saw the body being dragged out, media reports said.

The court has ordered Mukerjea to undergo medical examination following her allegations of being beaten up.

Manjula Shetye died after allegedly being beaten by a woman jail official.

Jail authorities have alleged that Mukerjea encouraged the women prisoners to revolt following the death of Shetye.

Mukerjea, on the other hand, alleged that the jail officers have threatened to harm her, according to media reports.

Mukerjea, 44, has been lodged in the Byculla jail since 2015 on charges of murdering her daughter, Sheena Bora.
