Raipur/IBNS: Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's son Chaitanya Baghel was on Friday arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to the alleged liquor case, media reports said.

The arrest came after an ED team raided Chaitanya's residence in Bhilai.

Bhupesh Baghel, a senior Congress leader, wrote on X this morning, "The kind of birthday gift that Modi and Shah ji give, no one else in any democracy in the world can give. On my birthday, both highly respected leaders sent ED to the homes of my advisor and two OSDs.

"And now, on my son Chaitanya’s birthday, an ED team is raiding my house. Thank you for these gifts. They will be remembered for a lifetime."

The probe agency feels the beneficiaries in the scam siphoned around Rs. 2,161 crore through multiple schemes.

The scam had allegedly led to the unaccounted sale of country liquor from state-run shops leading to a massive loss to the state exchequer.

The ED claims, as per reports, the entire money was siphoned by the syndicates.

Bhupesh Baghel served as the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister from 2018 to 2023.
