Former Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh's stepson found dead under mysterious circumstances in Kolkata
Former Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party chief Dilip Ghosh's stepson was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Kolkata's New Town area on Tuesday.
Deceased, Srinjoy (26), was an IT professional.
He is the son of Dilip Ghosh's wife Rinku Majumdar from her previous marriage.
Rinku Majumdar married Dilip Ghosh on April 18.
According to an ABP report, Rinku said her son tried to show he was happy with her marriage, but he wasn’t.
“He had wanted to stay with me,” Rinku told the publication. “I had decided to speak to Dilip about it… but never got the time.
“He never said it, but I could tell. He wanted to be with me. I had just made up my mind to talk to Dilip about bringing him to live with us—or else I would move in with him. We had started discussing it. Dilip had told me, ‘Let him get used to it a little. If he were working outside the city, he’d be living away anyway.’ But I knew he wasn’t being taken care of properly. His mind was not at peace. I’m his mother—I could feel it.”
Visibly shaken by his stepson's death, Dilip Ghosh expressed deep sorrow.
“I never got to enjoy fatherhood, only the grief of losing a son,” he said in a choked voice.
“I don’t know what happened,” Gosh said, revealing shock and regret over the sudden demise. “Rinku was cooking in the morning when a phone call came. She rushed out. I couldn’t understand anything. A post-mortem will be conducted. Only then will we know what really happened—how a healthy young man just left us like this.”
Rinku said Srinjoy had been living in the apartment with two friends.
On Tuesday morning, after getting a call from his girlfriend, she rushed to his flat. “Two of his office colleagues had come the night before—one at 10 pm, the other at 3 am,” she said. “I had spoken to him around midnight. He said, ‘I’ll go to Durgapur tomorrow and visit Science City at 8 am.’”
She revealed that her son had a neurological condition and had once lost consciousness around a year and a half ago. Since then, he had been on medication but had not taken his medicines for the past few days.
“He didn’t say anything, but I think his dream was to live with me. I had promised him: I’ll bring you home soon. We’ll set up a new life together,” Rinku said.
“I had been tense the last couple of days. He wasn’t eating properly. I was managing things from here, but the cook at his flat had left. A boy who never stayed out of home had started living in a friend’s flat,” she revealed.
She added that when she reached the New Town flat, two of his colleagues were present—both known to her.
“Srinjoy used to tell them, ‘You all live with your parents, you won’t understand.’ And then at times, he’d say, ‘I’m happy.’ I don’t know what happened… I just can’t make sense of it.”
Local authorities have started investigating his death.
Preliminary police assessments suggest the possibility of suicide, reported The Indian Express.
According to media reports, his body has been sent to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
