For the first time I felt like a Muslim: Umar Khalid on JNU campus
New Delhi, Feb 22 (IBNS) Umar Khalid, one of the prime accused in the JNU sedition row said that he never considered himself a Muslim but felt it for the first time after charges were brought against him, upon his return to the JNU campus on Sunday, according to reports.
Khalid and his mates were missing from the campus ever since the varsity erupted with protests flaring high.
Khalid was quoted by NDTV as saying, "For the six-seven years that I have done politics on this campus, I have never thought of myself as a Muslim. I have never also projected myself as a Muslim. In the last 10 days, for the first time I felt like a Muslim. These people are telling us about patriotism... They may have majority but they are scared of us... they are scared of our struggle, they are afraid of us because we think."
Besides Umar Khalid other student leaders like Anirban, Ashutosh, Rama Naga and Ananth Prakash also garnered support from the other students and teachers in the campus who sat with them for an over night demonstration.
Though police arrived at the spot, they were denied entry as they remained outside the campus gates for the night.
