Flood declared in Kashmir, people asked to move to safety
Srinagar, Mar 30 (IBNS): After days of heavy rain, the Jammu and Kashmir government has declared flood in Kashmir and people in low lying areas were asked to move to safer places.
After the river Jhelum flowed over the danger mark following the incessant rain for past two days, flood alert was announced late last night.
Srinagar was flooded too in parts even though the weather looked up. Relief camps have been set up already but people were alerted ahead since the devastation of last year's flood is still vivid in memory.
Several families have been evacuated to safer areas, said reports.
About 100 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel were sent to Srinagar, said reports.
Bad weather conditions can continued till April 4, MET department earlier said.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed is in Srinagar to personally supervise the situation, said reports.
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he hoped that September 2014 kind of situation would not repeat since authorities have learnt from the experience of last year.
