Five Pakistan fighter jets were shot down during Operation Sindoor, claims IAF chief
New Delhi/IBNS: Air Chief Marshal AP Singh on Friday said five Pakistan fighter jets comprising US-made F-16s and Chinese J-17s were shot down during Operation Sindoor, media reports said.
Singh said the Indian military has proof of one long-range strike on an AEW&C aircraft and four-five strikes on fighter jets, NDTV reported.
Like previous claims, the Air Force chief on Friday asserted the precision strikes disabled radars, Command and Control Centres, runways, hangars and several other military infrastructure illustrating the heavy impact India's Operation Sindoor had on Pakistan between May 7 and 10.
Singh backed the India government's claim that it was Pakistan that had requested for a ceasefire contradicting US President Donald Trump's assertion that it was him who brokered a deal between the two nuclear powers.
Trump claimed he used trade as an incentive to stop the military escalation.
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has denied any global intervention.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has claimed there was no phone call between Modi and Trump from April 22 to June 17.
" In Operation Sindoor, you saw the terrorists paid the price for killing innocent people... and the world saw we achieved our goal. We struck targets across 300 km, then they (Pakistan) asked for the ceasefire," the Air Force chief said as quoted by NDTV.
Operation Sindoor, which was launched by the Indian Armed Forces to avenge the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians, destroyed nine terrorist bases in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The military conflict escalated after Pakistan targeted civilians across the borders without any provocation to be aptly countered by the Indian military.
Nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) were targeted and destroyed in 25 minutes of Operation Sindoor.
The terrorists camps were the major training hubs of Pak-based terror groups- Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Hizbul Mujahideen.
According to a statement by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the operation was aimed at neutralizing terror camps actively involved in planning and executing attacks against India.
