Jammu, Mar 19 (IBNS) At least five people were killed on Thursday when the cab in which they were traveling plunged into a deep gorge, police said.

According to the police, the driver lost control over the taxi and plunged into a deep gorge near Shaitani Nallah on Jammu-Srinagar highway in Ramban district of the state.

"Five passengers were killed on the spot and three were critically injured," the officer said.

Injured people were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Passengers in the taxi were labourers and were not locals, official said.

They were on their way to Srinagar from Jammu when the mishap happened.

The Jammu-Srinagar 300 km long highway was open for one-way traffic on Thursday morning after remaining closed for four consecutive days due to landslides on national highway.
