| @indiablooms | May 03, 2019, at 11:10 pm

Gangtok, May 3 (UNI) The state government has sounded an alert against the possible impact of Fani, the severe cyclonic storm.

"Many parts of the state are likely to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds from the night of May 3 till May 5," said Rinzing Chewang Bhutia, Special Secretary, Land Revenue & Disaster Management.

Bhutia ordered all the DCs to remain alert and keep an eye on the developments.

The advisory has been issued based on the information from Meteorological Department of India.

However, "Fani" or "Hood of a Snake",named by Bangladesh, has resulted due to global warming, scientists said.

The Fani cyclonic storm has already hit Odisha, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.

The experts expect it to divert towards Bangladesh from May 5 next, but the Hills are likely to face it before that, said the Met officials.
