New Delhi, Feb 27 (IBNS): The Election Commission has said it will announce the poll dates for Karnataka around April 15, media reports said.

The EC chief told NDTV that it is considering the students' examination in the state which is expected to be over by mid-April.

As the tenure of the present Karnataka Assembly is going to expire on May 28, a new house will have to be formed before the date.

Karnataka is one of the few Congress bastions in the country at the present time.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is aiming to keep its footprint in southern India, is offering a tough fight to the Siddaramaiah government this time.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has already raised his voice against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the alleged scams that unfolded in recent times.

In a 225-member Assembly, Congress has 124 as opposed to BJP's 44 seats.
