New Delhi, Jan 30 (IBNS): An eight-month-old baby was allegedly raped in India's national capital, reports said.

The Incident took place on Sunday in Delhi's Subhash Nagar area.

The perpetrator has been identified as the victim's 28-year old cousin, who has been arrested.

According to reports, the child was moved to a hospital, where she was operated upon for nearly three hours.

The baby is presently placed in an ICU and is said to be stable, according to doctors.

The crime took place after both the parents of the victim left for work, leaving the child in a relative's care.

Upon returning home, the mother, a domestic help, found the daughter crying on the bed, bleeding.

After being taken to a hospital, the doctors confirmed that she was indeed sexually molested.

Police have filed several charges against the culprit.

The incident received severe condemnation from  Swati Maliwal, head of Delhi Commission for Women.

"What to do? How can Delhi sleep today when 8 month baby has been brutally raped in Capital?" she tweeted.
