New Delhi/IBNS: Visuals showing Muslim people offering namaz and hugging each other came from across the country including the national capital Delhi as India is celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday.

A huge gathering was spotted near Jama Masjid in Delhi like every other year.

The same was seen in other parts of India as Eid marks the end of the month of Ramzan.

Eid is celebrated on the first day of the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar or Shawwal.

Muslims hold fasting from dawn to dusk for one month till the first day of Shawwal.

Eid is marked by the very significant moon sighting.

President Droupadi Murmu tweeted, "I congratulate all the countrymen especially the Muslim brothers and sisters on Eid-ul-Fitr. Eid, the festival of love and compassion, gives us the message of helping others. Come, on this auspicious occasion of celebration, let us all take a pledge to move forward on the path of increasing brotherhood and mutual harmony in the society."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr. May the spirit of harmony and compassion be furthered in our society. I also pray for everyone’s wonderful health and well-being. Eid Mubarak!"

India's acting legend Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, "Eid Mubaarak."

"Eid Mubarak! Wishing for happiness and harmony in everyone’s life," tweeted cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar.
