Drunk driving: Police to cancel license on spot, says Bengal Transport Minister

During a press conference here in Kolkata, Adhikari said, "We have directed the police to cancel driving license on spot, if someone is caught drunk while driving."

Speaking about the newly implemented 'no helmet, no petrol' rule, Suvendu Adhikari said that the rule was a fair initiative by the state government to reduce road accidents.

"After this initiative is overtaken, an improvement has been observed in Kolkata and other cities' traffic management,” he added.

While he was asked about the violation of 'no helmet no petrol' rule, Adhikari told the media, "Due to demonetization, the government is unable to charge any fine against these violations of the rule.”

Meanwhile, the Transport Minister said that the state government would be launching a new application for making the vehicles' tax payment easier.

Speaking about the state government’s 'Safe Drive Save Life' campaign, he said, "With this initiative, police is trying their best to reduce road accidents around the state.”

“We are also taking steps by funding for driving schools and bringing professionally skilled drivers to minimize road accidents,” Adhikari added.

Meanwhile, Suvendu Adhikari said that the state government will collaborate with the IIT Kharagpur for the betterment of the driving training.

"The venue of the examination hall, where the students will be appearing for their test, will be guarded properly with CCTV cameras to deal with the exam in a fair process,” he further said.
