Disengagement along LAC not yet completed, expect China to sincerely work with us: India

New Delhi/IBNS: India on Thursday informed that the disengagement process along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western sector has not yet completed, which countered China's claim that frontline forces of the two countries have pulled back totally.

"There has been some progress made towards this objective but the disengagement process has as yet not been completed. The Senior Commanders of the two sides will be meeting in the near future to work out steps in this regard," MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastav said during a virtual media briefing.

On June 15, Patrol Point 14 in Galwan Valley witnessed a violent clash between the troops of both nations that led to the killing of 20 Indian soldiers.

On June 29, following marathon 11-hour talks between Indian and Chinese forces, both arrived at a "mutual consensus" on disengagement.

The agreement to disengage from the border areas was reached between the two Special Representatives, NSA and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in their conversation on July 5.

Both sides agreed that early and complete disengagement of the troops along the Line of Actual Control and de-escalation from India-China border areas in accordance with bilateral agreement and protocols and full restoration of peace and tranquility was essential for smooth overall development of bilateral relations.

"As we have stated earlier, the maintenance of peace and tranquility in the border areas is the basis of our bilateral relationship," Srivastava said.

"Therefore, we expect that the Chinese side will sincerely work with us for complete disengagement and de-escalation and full restoration of peace and tranquillity in the border areas at the earliest as agreed to by the Special Representatives," he added.

Two days ago, China reportedly said that the situation on the ground was easing amid regular talks between officials.

Meanwhile, China has also warned India against forced decoupling stating that economies of both courtries are "interwoven."

Amid India's moves to ban Chinese applications, Ambassador Sun Weidong wrote on Twitter: "Invisible virus rather than China is the threat. It is short-sighted & harmful to deny long history of peaceful co-existence between #China & #India & portray our friendly neighbor for thousands of years as opponent & strategic threat due to temporary differences & difficulties.

He said China advocates win-win cooperation and opposes zero-sum game.

"Our economic & trade exchanges should be positive cycle of mutual accomplishment. It should not become a knockout nor a zero-sum game deliberately suppressing others. We should recognize mutually beneficial & win-win nature & jointly create open, fair, just business environment," said Weidong.

He also warned that the relations of both countries today are hard-earned and should be handled cautiously.
