Dignitaries pay their last respects to Suvra Mukherjee in Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi, Aug 18 (IBNS): A host of dignitaries paid their last respects to President Pranab Mukherjee's wife Suvra Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.

The Indian First Lady passed away at 10.51 am here.

The dignitaries include Mohd. Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India; Narendra Modi, Prime Minister; Manmohan Singh, Former Prime Minister; Justice H.L. Dattu, Chief Justice of India; Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, JP Nadda, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Prakash Javadekar, Smriti Irani and Dr. Najma Heptulla; Sonia Gandhi; Kesari Nath Tripathi, Governor of West Bengal; Najeeb Jung, Lt. Governor of NCT of Delhi; Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of NCT of Delhi; Babul Supriyo Minister of State for Urban Development; General Dalbir Singh Suhag, Chief of Army Staff; Admiral RK Dhowan, Chief of Naval Staff; Sharad Yadav, MP (RS); Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, MP (LS); Brinda Karat; High Commissioner of Bangladesh; Ambassador of Bhutan etc.

Suvra Mukherjee suffered a cardiac arrest on Aug 7 and was admitted to ICU of Army Hospital (R&R) same day.

Suvra Mukherjee was born on Sept 17, 1940 in Jessore and married Pranab Mukherjee on July 13, 1957.

She was a vocalist of Rabindra Sangeet and founded the ‘Geetanjali Troupe’.

Her cremation ceremony will be held at the Lodhi Road Crematorium at10.00 a.m. on Wednesday.
