Devendra Fadnavis may become Maharashtra's first ever BJP CM

Mumbai, Oct 28 (IBNS): Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis, 44, is likely to be chosen as the state’s next chief minister at a meeting of the party’s newly-elected legislators on Tuesday, media reports said.

The BJP’s first Maharashtra chief minister will take oath at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede stadium.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to fly in for the event. The stadium has been chosen for its seating capacity of 60,000.

Other senior BJP leaders, celebrities and business leaders are expected to attend the event.

The BJP's 121 legislators will meet to elect the legislature party leader who will also be the chief minister of Maharashtra.

The meeting will begin at 11 am in Mumbai today and Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh will act as an observer at the programme.
