Deputy Director of AH & Veterinary caught red handed while accepting bribe in Guwahati

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam Police on Tuesday caught a Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department red handed in Guwahati while allegedly accepting a bribe.

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption branch of Assam police and Kokrajhar district police caught the Deputy Director identified as Dr Arup Jyoti Bhuiyan at Dispur area in Guwahati while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

In a press release issued by the Assam police said that, a complaint was received by the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kokrajhar district to the effect that the complainant owns a dairy farm and in order to bring three cows to his farm from Alipurduar in North Bengal, he approached the concerned Veterinary Doctor namely Dr Arup Jyoti Bhuyan, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department, Chenikuthi in Guwahati for providing necessary transit permit for the purpose.

“As per the complaint, Dr Arup Jyoti Bhuyan demanded Rs 20,000 as bribe from the complainant for issuing the permit. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached SP Kokrajhar for taking necessary legal action against the above- mentioned public servant. Accordingly, a joint trap team was constituted by the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam & Kokrajhar district police. A trap was laid today and Dr Arup Jyoti Bhuyan was apprehended red handed at around 5-30 pm in Dispur area while accepting the bribe money of Rs 20,000 from the complainant,” said in the press release.

The press release also stated that the tainted bribe money was recovered from the possession of Dr Arup Jyoti Bhuyan in presence of the independent witnesses.
A case has been registered in Kokrajhar police station on Tuesday.
