Demonetisation a fire bombing on the poor : Rahul Gandhi

"PM Modi’s demonetisation is not a surgical strike but a fire bombing on poor,” Gandhi said while addressing a 'Janakrosh' (people's wrath) rally.

The Congress leader's rally was held almost at the same time Modi addressed a 'Parivartan' rally in Kanpur, where he accused the Opposition of trying to protect the 'dishonest' in the name of fighting demonetisation.

Putting up a counter to Modi's claim that the note ban decision has been taken to curb corruption and black money, Gandhi said  only six per cent unaccounted money is in India and 94 per cent  is stashed away in foreign banks, real estate and investment in land deals and gold.

"Why then the PM is running after only the 6 per cent ?", he asked.

While recalling his last meeting with the Prime minister, Rahul also told the rally that he sought wavier of farmers' loans, but the PM was non-committal.

"Recently, I met PM Modi and demanded to waive farmers' loan. He looked at me and said nothing. He did not reply. He is targeting the poor people of this country and waiving loans of rich".

"After 8th November, PM has ‘gifted’ a toffee worth Rs 1200 crore to Mallya (Vijay Mallya). Fifty families have the major chunk of India’s money with them, thanks to the Prime Minister," he said.

Rahul, however, asked party workers not to raise 'murdabad' slogans against Modi.

"Using such word is not our culture. You can hear such word from hardliner like RSS. He (Modi) is our Prime Minister and we have a political rivalry against him. I would like to urge you all not to use such word against him."
