New Delhi, Aug 26 (IBNS): Pro-Khalistan supporters allegedly attacked President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Manjit Singh GK in California, media reports said on Sunday.

Singh was reportedly visiting the city to hold discussions among the Sikh community about the 550th birthday anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak.

Speaking of the attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader, the party tweeted: "ISI funded lynch mob masquerading as Sikhs that murderously assaulted @ManjitGK , have indulged in sacrilege by tossing his turban. No genuine Sikh would attack anyone inside a Gurdwara while spreading the message of Guru Nanak Dev ji for the 550 Gurpurab."

Singh told media that he was visiting Gurudwara in Yuba City when he was attacked by a group of men.

Union Ministers condemn attack:

Union Cabinet Minister and SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal condemned the attack and said it was a target on the Sikh community.

Badal said: "Strongly Condemn the Cowardly attack on unarmed @ManjitGK at the Yuba City Gurughar in complete disregard of Maryada and Sikhi! To these agents of ISI, the only way to get referendum is by attacking n intimidating Sikhs. No Sikh will ever be cowed down by your dastardly acts."

"The dastardly attack on S. Manjit Singh GK was not an attack on an individual but on the Dastar of a Sikh. It was an attack by agents of ISI on a party that is fighting the battle of justice for Sikhs. @SushmaSwaraj ji please take it up seriously with the US government," she tweeted.

Badal said she has urged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to extend all help and support to Singh.

"I've personally spoken to @SushmaSwaraj ji and requested her to instruct the consulate to extend full support and security to Manjit Singh GK," she said.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also condemned the attack and posted: "Strongly condemn the attack on Sardar Manjit Singh GK in California. Manjit GK has made a huge contribution to the management and expansion of the Sikh religious, social and educational institutions."
