Delhi Police files case against Twitter account holders for sharing fake video of late CDS General Bipin Rawat
New Delhi/UNI: The Delhi Police on Friday registered a case against some Twitter account holders for allegedly sharing and propagating a fake video of late CDS General Bipin Rawat, police said.
KPS Malhotra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit (IFSO) Delhi Police, said during the monitoring of social media, it was observed that a fake video has been shared on the social media site by some Twitter handles.
Malhotra said that in reality, the video was shot in the meeting of Cabinet Committee, which took place on December 9, after the demise of CDS General Bipin Rawat. The said video was readily available on various news portals and social media platforms.
The DCP said that the video was morphed and a new voice over was super-imposed, in which the alleged persons tried to show that the meeting was against the Sikh Community.
Such an act of promoting disharmony between different groups on the grounds of religion was prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony and could disturb public tranquility and was an offence under Section 153A IPC. Police registered a case and investigation was being done.
Police claimed that the Twitter accounts, which started the propagation of the video, were @simrankaur0507 and @eshalkaur1.
Police urged the people not to believe in such videos and do proper fact-checking before sharing the same on social media.
