New Delhi/UNI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is planning to get the Yamuna river cleaned up before the next assembly elections in 2025.

He was speaking at a media event on Wednesday, where he also talked about his plans to make alternative fuel or biofuel the new normal for people of the national capital that have been witnessing toxic air quality for days.

Kejriwal reiterated his plans for the Yamuna days after photographs of the frothing river went viral globally during the Chhath Puja in November.

The AAP national convenor also spoke on the issue of stubble burning that has contributed to the dip in AQI quality leading to severe health issues besides on and off work from home and major restriction on construction activities.

Kejriwal said, "We need innovative ways like alternative fuel or biofuel that not only will save us but also benefit farmers.

"We also hope to get the Yamuna clean by 2025."

"Today along with better schools, colleges and hospitals, pilgrimage for the elderly has benefited a large part of the population," he said at one of the sessions in a media event, here on Wednesday.

Targeting the Centre on the farmers' issue, Kejriwal said the Narendra Modi government issued notification on MSP for 23 crops but picked only two crops on MSP.

Also present at the event were Union Ministers Bhupendra Yadav and Nitin Gadkari among others.
