Delhi air pollution : Govt Withdraws Odd-Even Review Plea After NGT Rap

| @indiablooms | Nov 14, 2017, at 09:09 pm

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IBNS) : The Delhi Government on Tuesday  withdrew its review petition on implementation of odd-even scheme in the national capital for modifications after the National Green Tribunal pulled it up and  refused to exempt women and two-wheelers from the scheme, reports said.

The green court asked the Government why was it seeking exemption for women and not ensuring separate buses for them instead.

The judgment read,"In light of hazardous values which is bound to create environment issues. It is not possible to change order dated November 11 order. Boards are expected to submit analysis reports in the next hearing, to enable the tribunal to modify its earlier order".

Citing two-wheelers as one of the largest causes of pollution the NGT slammed the government for proposing their exemption.

The AAP Government had earlier opposed the NGT's order, passed on Saturday last, askinng it  to implement the odd-even formula in Delhi without any exemptions for women drivers or two-wheelers.

The AAP had said that although the environment was important, women's safety remained paramount.

The Green court asked the Delhi Government to idetify the most polluted areas and sprinkle water there.

The body has also ordered all 10-year-old diesel vehicles to be taken off road.
