Delhi air improves, set to get better this week: IMD

New Delhi/UNI: The air quality in Delhi on Monday improved to "very poor" from the "severe" category that was recorded post Diwali, MeT data showed.

According to the Centre-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) data, the overall air quality index is 368. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said it is likely to improve further and remain in the upper end of the very poor category.

"The air quality is likely to improve progressively but remain in the very poor to poor category in the next five days," the IMD said in its forecast.

There was a significant increase in crop residue burning points in Punjab (5,199), Haryana (182) and Uttar Pradesh (46) on Sunday, it said. PM2.5 to be the predominant pollutant, it added.

According to the weather department, the minimum temperature was recorded at 13.6 degrees Celsius on Monday.

The weather department has forecast partly cloudy sky during the day and the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 29 degrees Celsius.
