Covid 19: 13 lives lost due to reported shortage of oxygen in Goa, 75 dead in four days

Panaji/UNI: As many as 13 lives were lost in the early hours of Friday morning at the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital taking the total number of deaths to 75 during the last four days.

In a tweet, former Minister and Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijay Sardesai termed the four hours between 2 am and 6 am as 'dark hours'.

''Goemkars are devastated & heartbroken as inspite of a truce between @DrPramodPSawant & @visrane brokered by Centre, 13 have reportedly died last night due to ‘logistical issues’ @GoaGmc during the critical ‘dark hours’ (1-6AM)!We need action not just another committee of enquiry,'' he said.

"There is a complete collapse of governance. In spite of HC intervention, deaths are happening at this dark hour. Rather than the government, HC should rule Goa because government is doing nothing other than photo ops and filing cases against those who expose them," the former Deputy Chief Minister said.

While 26 people died on May 10, while 21 people lost lives on May 11 due to alleged lack of oxygen.

Bombay High Court at Goa had grilled the government agencies over the issue of poor covid management and shoddy management of oxygen supply at the government's premier health facility.

Goa Youth Congress President Varad Madolkar said the oxygen issue was there for the last 14-15 days but the government could not fix it.

On Thursday, Goa government formed a committee, headed by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Goa, Director Dr B K Mishra, to streamline oxygen supply to the facility. The committee has been asked to submit a report within three days.
