Court frames charges against Uber rape accused

| | Jan 13, 2015, at 10:34 pm
New Delhi, Jan 13(IBNS) A Delhi court on Tuesday framed charges against Shiv Kumar Yadav, the Uber cab driver who had allegedly raped a woman passenger last month.

He has been charged with rape, kidnapping and criminal intimidation.

Yadav, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, allegedly raped the 25-year-old finance executive on December 5.

The incident kicked up a nationwide uproar and also put Uber, the cab company, under severe criticism for failing to ensure passengers' safety.

The woman said in her complaint that she had fallen asleep in the vehicle and the driver took her to a desolate place and raped her. He even threatened to violate her with an iron rod.

Two days later, Yadav was arrested from his hometown Mathura in a joint operation by the police of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

The charge-sheet against him was filed in 19 days and the Delhi police asked for a trial in a fast-track court.
