Congress slams Centre over Railway fares hike

New Delhi, June 20 (IBNS): The Congress on Friday attacked the Centre over its decision to hike Railway fares and said it was a gift given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government to the people who have voted him to power.

"They have rewarded people who voted for them this way,the Congress strictly condemns this move," Congress leader Ajay Maken told media.

With not even a month in office, Narendra Modi government on Friday increased Railway fares with the the passenger fare being hiked by 14.2 percent.

The freight rates have been hiked by 6.5 percent.

New fares will be effective from June 25.

This is the first steep hike in Railway fares in many years.
