Congress President-elect Rahul Gandhi says he is confident of his party's win in Gujarat elections
Ahmedabad, Dec 12 (IBNS): Congress President-Elect Rahul Gandhi intensified his remarks against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the last day of the campaigning of the second phase of the two-day elections for the Gujarat assembly.
Earlier on Tuesday, he visited the Jagananth Temple in Ahmedabad.
In the afternoon, Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference, where he said, "We are confident of where we stand as a party."
He also reiterated that he is confident of Congress winning the Assembly elections in Gujarat.
"The PM is not talking of corruption," he said.
"In last 22 years PM Modi and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani have initiated only one-sided development here, the one only for 5-10 people. Not everyone has been given their rights," said Rahul Gandhi.
However, his party will not take unilateral decisions, said Rahul,
"Whatever decision we will make about Gujarat, it will only be done after talking to the people of Gujarat, after listening to their voices," he said.
While the Congress President-Elect said that he is against Mani Shankar Aiyar's "neech" remark and made it clear that he 'will not tolerate such things', he was also quick to point out that 'what all PM Modi said about Manmohan Singh is also not acceptable'.
Commenting on his visits to temples, he said, "Whenever I went to a temple I just prayed for a 'Sunehra Bhavishya' for the people of Gujarat, a better development here. Is it wrong to go to a temple?"
While Modi is showcasing the development work in Gujarat to seek a fifth consecutive win for the BJP in Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi's Congress is citing the same model of development as a failure in the high profile Gujarat poll campaign.
Talking about his reception by the people of Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi said, "People of Gujarat has given me a lot of love during the last few months which I will never forget. Wherever I went, I was offered moongfali, dhokla, thepla and I was surprised with their hospitality. The people of Gujarat can approach me whenever they want to."
Gujarat, which is undergoing a two phase assembly election, witnessed 66.75% turnout in the first phase. The second and final phase for the remaining 93 seats will be held on Dec 14. In the first phase, 89 Assembly seats went to polls.
The votes will be counted on December 18.
