Congress' Abhishek Singhvi hints at BJP's 'horse trading' to form 'stable government' in Karnataka
New Delhi/Bengaluru, May 17 (IBNS): Senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi has taken a subtle swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by hinting at a possible horse trading by the saffron outfit, which lacks the simple majority, to provide a stable government to the people of Karnataka.
Singhvi, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, tweeted, "Hope it is not anyone’s motto? Or maybe it is... currently for one party!"
With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announcing that BS Yeddyurappa will take oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) combine had approached the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing on Wednesday.
However, a bench of Justice AK Sikri, Justice A Bobde and Justice Ashok Bhushan, which heard the plea, refused to put a stay on Yeddyurappa's oath taking ceremony in a midnight legal battle.
Singhvi had led the legal battle of the Congress-JD(S) in the court last night.
Yeddyurappa on Thursday took oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
The Governor gave BJP a period of 15 days to prove majority, said reports.
The BJP, which secured 104 seats, is short of the majority mark (113).
The Congress and JD(S) combine are well over the majority mark in a 224-member Karnataka assembly. While the Congress has 78 seats, the JD(S) bagged 38 seats.
