"Come, Make in India", Modi woos Japanese investors
Tokyo, Sept 2 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday has urged the Japanese business community to resolve to "Make in India" and assured them that they will receive a conducive business environment in this country.
Buoyed by the huge investment plan laid down by Japan a day ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced his strong support for Japanese investors in India.
Delivering the keynote address at an event hosted by Nikkei Inc. and Japan External Trade Organization, the Prime Minister said that if we can replicate in India the work culture, governance, efficiency and discipline that exists in Japan, Japanese business will feel comfortable in doing business in India.
He assured the investors that they will feel comfortable in India.
Prime Minister envisaged his “Made in India” vision in front of the Japanese business delegates.
Modi said, "When I was young, if it was said 'Made in Japan' we did not have to think twice. We would buy the product."
Modi said that he possess the same dream for India now.
Wooing the Japanese investors, he said, "When we say 'Make in India', we mean we'll give you an environment where you'll be able to meet your product's global demand through low cost manufacturing, ease of business and skilled manpower."
Talking about India`s leadership in software, and Japan`s leadership in hardware, the Prime Minister highlighted that both were incomplete without each other. "India is incomplete without Japan. Japan is incomplete without India," the Prime Minister said.
Modi has embarked on a 5-day bilateral visit to Japan on Aug 30.
While discussing bilateral trade and investment with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Monday, Modi guaranteed speedy clearances to Japanese investors, promising the creation of a team within his office that will handle proposals from Japanese industry.
In return, Abe promised Modi that over the next five years, he will invest nearly 34 billion dollars in infrastructure and other projects in India including the cleaning up of the Ganga river and the development of smart cities.
On Tuesday also, Modi reassured the Japanese business fraternity on the abolishment of India’s “lacklustre attitude” while deciding foreign investments.
Making a strong pitch of the new government under his leadership, Modi said there is 'no red tape' in India at present and 'there is only a red carpet'.
He added that his Govt. has removed 55 per cent red tape in the 100 days he has been in power.
He said that within the first 100 days itself, his Government had moved to cut red tape and ease restrictions for doing business.
He said wherever in the world Japanese business wanted to sell, India was the best location to manufacture.
Stating that huge possibilities for cooperation existed between the two countries, the Prime Minister said India wants to give an environment to Japanese business to make in India, whatever they wished to supply to the world.
Giving some more examples of the huge potential for business in India, the Prime Minister said 50 cities were in the queue for metro trains, and a huge demand existed for electronic goods.
Nowhere else in the world will you find the combination of democracy, demographics and demand, that exists in India, the Prime Minister said.
He also spoke of emerging possibilities due to the Digital India mission and a thrust on solar energy.
