Collective efforts can help to end child labour, says Sub-Judge Srinagar

Srinagar: Secretary District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Srinagar and Sub-Judge Srinagar Court Noor Mohammad Saturday said that child labour exploitation is spreading day by day and collective efforts are needed to end this menace.

Noor was speaking in a webinar wherein speakers threw light on “World Day Against Child Labour.”

The virtual event was organized by DLSA Srinagar under the guidance of Executive Chairman J&K LSA Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey and Chairman DLSA Srinagar Choudhary Mohammad Akram.

“As a collective effort we have to find proper and effective mechanism to end the menace of child labour in society.” Referring to various provisions of law, he said the Supreme Court while interpreting Article 21 has held right to receive education by child worker until they completed 14 years of age is an integral part of right to life and personal liberty.

Terming the “World Day Against Child Labour” as “Week of Action”, he said that events and activities carried out during this week will be an opportunity for stakeholders and the people to achieve and maintain the progress in carrying out their contribution in ending the child labour.

Among others, project coordinator Child Line Dr Suraya Amin Basu and advocate Syed Mujtaba also spoke on the occasion.
