Cold wave in north India : Two die in HP, Kashmir's Gulmarg at minus 13

New Delhi, Jan 13 (IBNS) : Two persons died as a severe cold wave continued to sweep north India with the mercury remaining in the sub-zero level in many places of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh while places like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab experienced biting cold.

According to reports two persons have died due to severe cold in Himachal Pradesh.

Delhi woke up to yet another chilly winter morning on Friday with the minimum temperature being recorded at 3.7 degree Celsius,  about four degrees below the season’s normal.

According to the  India Meteorological Department (IMD), the  maximum temperature during the day is likely to be about 18.2 degree Celsius, two degree below normal.

As many as 25 trains were delayed, eight were rescheduled and two were cancelled because of the fog condition in the national capital.

Jammu and Kashmir continued to reel under intense cold wave on Friday as both Srinagar and Jammu recorded the season`s coldest night so far at minus 6.3 and 3.1 degrees Celsius respectively.

According to reports, The minimum temperature was minus 12.4 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam and minus 13.6 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg on Friday.

Leh town in the Ladakh region recorded minus 14 degree Celsius as the night`s lowest temperature.

The Met office said another spell of rain and snow is likely to take place on January 15 and 16.

The valley has been  lying in deep freeze these days as all the water bodies are frozen.

In Himachal Pradesh, the unprecedented cold wave conditions continue despite crystal clear sky and bright sunshine with no improvement in  sub-zero temperatures at various places, including Shimla, the state capital and popular tourist destinations like Manali.

Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti was the coldest in HP with mercury dropping to minus 15 degree Celsius.

Work is still going on to  restore the normal life affected by last week’s snowfall.

The met department has predicted heavy snowfall and rain on January 15 and 16 as a fresh western disturbance would again hit the Himalayan region from Saturday.
