Chennai building collapse toll touches 55

Chennai, July 3 (IBNS): The death toll in Saturday's building collapse near Chennai reached 55 on Thursday as rescue operations still continued, said reports.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who had said there were 72 construction workers in the building when it collapsed, has set up a probe panel under a judge and said action will be taken after its report and fixing of responsibility.

The 11-storey building collapsed at around 6 pm Saturday at Moulivakkam near Chennai.

Five people have been arrested in connection to the matter so far.
