Cauvery water dispute : SC pulls up Karnataka asks to release water to avoid wrath of law
The court's order to act immediately came after its directive twice to release water from the Cauvery was not adhered to by the Karnataka Government.
"Wrath of law will fall upon Karnataka in case of any defiance of Cauvery order," warns SC warned Karnataka.
"Karnataka is flouting order and creating a situation in which the majesty of law is dented," it said.
The top court asked the Centre to constitute and make functional the Cauvery Management Board in three days, while stating that it wouldn’t want a situation where “wrath of law will have to follow”.
It also asked the board to assess the ground realities and submit a report next week.
However, Karnataka's sate counsel Fali S Nariman withdrew , citing its refusal to comply with the court order.
After meeting the Government representatives from both the states, Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti had on Thursday said that if the tension between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka prevailed, she would go on hunger strike at the inter-state border.
