Captured terrorist a Pakistani : Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, Aug 6 (IBNS) Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday told Parliament that Usman Khan, the LeT militant, captured in in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, is a Pakistani national and the attack on the BSF convoy was intended to disrupt the peace process in the state.

He also announced compensation for the jawans who died fighting the terrorists.


"Preliminary interrogation of the captured terrorist reveal his identity as Mohammad Naveed Yakub alias Usman, a resident of Faisalabad in Pakistan. He also revealed the identity of his slain accomplice as Mohammad Nomen alias Nomin, resident of Bhawalpur, Pakistan," he said.

Singh informed the house that two BSF personnel - Yamuna Nagar resident Rocky and Subhendu Roy of Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, were killed and 14 others injured in the attack.

One of the militants involved in the attack was killed while, the other was apprehended by local people and police. "The apprehended terrorist was brought to Jammu, where he is being questioned by the concerned authorities," he said. 

Lauding the villagers who captured the surviving terrorist and handed him over to security personnel, Rajnath Singh said: "I appreciate the unarmed villagers of the area who without fearing for their lives helped in arresting the terrorist. I will request the government to recognize their contribution."

Naved alias Usman is the first suspected Pakistani terrorist to be captured alive after 26/11 handler Ajmal Kasab.
